No not the dog.
Old Yeller has been around longer than I have. It is the first thing to be packed when we go away, and usually the only thing worn on any kind of hunting or fishing adventure we go on. It is The Sportsman's lucky yellow fishing hoody. Do you have those few precious things that you just cross your fingers and hope the washer doesn't eat? Yup, Old Yeller is definitely on the top of that list for me. Second to maybe Sportsman-in-Training's blankie. I am pretty sure I would be in big trouble if I ever did anything to harm either.
When I met The Sportsman we were working at a fishing lodge. Things get stinky in a fishing lodge, especially in the guide quarters. Ew. I tried to sneak Old Yeller into the wash whenever I could but then I realized it was pointless since it always ended up fishy five minutes after The Sportsman put it back on. Not to mention it just added fish scales to all the rest of the laundry. I still randomly find fish scales from Old Yeller on my clothes. He was even wearing Old Yeller for our very first picture together some ... geesh ... five years ago?
One time we were at the beach and I had forgotten my sweater and spotted Old Yeller in the back seat. Oh my goodness, The Sportsman was like a jealous lover. He pestered me about how it was going to smell girly and the fish wouldn't like it and that I better not spill anything on it. I finally decided I would brave the chilliness rather then have a nervous breakdown.
Pretty much every great catch The Sportsman has ever been photographed with, he is wearing Old Yeller. Luck? Maybe. Here's just a few in my brag book. Prepare to be jealous, my man can FISH!
And of course the catch of a lifetime, ME. haha!
Long live Old Yeller.
